Overview |
It is the most remarkable, certainly the most successful, book ever to come out of the great publishing corporations of Ursa Minor. More popular than the Celestial Home Care Omnibus, better selling than Fifty Three Things to Do in Zero Gravity, and more controversial than Oolon Colluphid's trilogy of philosophical blockbusters - Where God Went Wrong, Some More of God's Greatest Mistakes and Who is this God Person Anyway? So that whingeing Earthling Arthur Dent should be very grateful he had a copy!
For after Earth is destroyed to make way for a hyperspace bypass, Arthur Dent is let loose in the furthest recesses of the Galaxy armed only with the aforementioned mysterious but indispensable Guide. Follow Dent's cosmic adventures as he is joined by his pretty weird companions: Zaphod Beeblebrox, Ford Prefect, Trillian-the-Astrophysicist-he-met-at-a-party-in-Islington and Marvin the maniacally depressed Android. You never know, they may even find the answer to Life, The Universe and Everything! |

Easter Eggs |
Destruction of the Earth / Pan Galactic Gargle Blasters
On the main menu of disc one, select 'set-up' and press the LEFT button on your remote control. This will bring up a key pad. Key in the time the earth was destroyed: 1146. You will then be treated to the complete destruction of the earth sequence and an ad for Pan Galactic Gargle Blasters.
Full Version of the Opening Titles
On the first menu screen of disc two ('Inner Planets'), highlight 'communicate', and press the LEFT button on your remote control. This will bring up a hidden planet (Earth). Press ENTER for a full version of the opening credits (with the tunnel through the O lifted right out of the 'Dr. Who' credit sequence).
Heart of Gold Display Screens
On the second menu screen of disc two ('Outer Planets'), turn on the subtitles. Then select 'inner planets' and press the LEFT button on your remote control. The words 'Don't Panic' will appear. Pressing ENTER plays all the computer readouts for the Heart of Gold display screens.
Start-up
Select the Play All option (or allow the menu screen to play through without interruption for 2 minutes so Episode One will automatically start playing). Sometimes when you do this a different, "warped" version of the opening sequence of Episode One will play, which will then be replaced by a message telling you that your DVD player has been taken over by the Infinite Improbability Drive... things return to normal after a short delay.
Note that this feature is RANDOM so that it will not happen every time you put the disc in and, also, does not work on some players that do not implement the randomisation standard properly.
